You Trash!

It's not every day that a waiter calls out a customer for being cheap, but when it happens to a former NBA star, you know something's up. We recently came across an eyebrow-raising story about Richard Hamilton, the 14-year NBA veteran and four-time All-Star.

According to sources close to the situation, Hamilton was dining at a restaurant in Detroit last week when he received a $30 million contract offer from the Memphis Grizzlies. After celebrating his good fortune with a fancy meal, Hamilton left a whopping $13 tip on a total bill of over $100.

The waiter, clearly unimpressed by Hamilton's generosity (or lack thereof), had a few choice words for the NBA legend. "You trash!" he allegedly shouted after Hamilton left the restaurant.

Tip-tastic or Tragic?

While we're not here to judge anyone's tipping habits, it's clear that Hamilton's waiter was less than thrilled with his $13 contribution. Of course, when you're earning tens of millions of dollars a year, it can be easy to lose sight of what constitutes a "good" tip.

• But for those of us in the real world, where a $10-$15 tip on a meal over $50 is considered generous, Hamilton's behavior may raise some eyebrows.
• Still, it's worth noting that tipping customs can vary greatly from culture to culture and even from restaurant to restaurant.

Whether or not you think Hamilton's tip was "trashy" (sorry, had to!), one thing's for sure: the NBA star won't be winning any awards for his generosity anytime soon.
