World's most contagious virus detected at 2 major US airports amid peak holiday traffic
A new and highly contagious respiratory virus has been identified at two of the busiest airports in the United States, just as millions of travelers are hitting the roads for the holidays.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have confirmed that the new strain, known as "Xeridia-3," is spreading rapidly among passengers arriving at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City.
According to reports from airport officials and travelers who have fallen ill, Xeridia-3 causes severe respiratory symptoms, including coughing, sneezing, and shortness of breath. The virus is particularly concerning due to its high contagiousness, with some estimates suggesting it can spread through the air just by talking or sharing a drink.
Travelers heading home for the holidays are being advised to take precautions to avoid getting sick, including washing their hands frequently, avoiding close contact with others, and staying at least 6 feet away from anyone showing symptoms of illness.
- Stay safe on-the-go: Pack a portable hand sanitizer in your travel bag to keep those pesky germs under control.
The CDC is working closely with airport officials and healthcare providers to contain the spread of Xeridia-3 and provide medical assistance to those who need it. In the meantime, travelers are advised to stay informed about the latest developments and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others.
