World’s most contagious virus detected at 2 major US airports amid peak holiday traffic

As millions of Americans prepare to embark on their holiday travels, a concerning development has been reported at two major US airports: the world's most contagious virus has been detected.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed yesterday that the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, known for its high transmissibility, has been found in passengers arriving from international flights at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

With the holiday season in full swing, air travel is expected to reach record levels over the next few weeks. Health officials are urging travelers to take precautions, including wearing masks, washing their hands frequently, and staying at least 6 feet away from others.

The CDC has also reminded airlines that all passengers arriving from international destinations will be required to present a negative COVID-19 test result before boarding flights to the US.

What you can do to stay safe

• Wear a mask at all times while traveling, including on planes and in airport terminals
• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
• Avoid close contact with others, especially those who are sick
• Get vaccinated against COVID-19, including a booster shot if eligible
