A powerful winter storm is causing chaos across the country, with at least 24 states issuing emergency declarations as heavy snow and crippling ice grip large swaths of the nation.

The National Weather Service has issued Blizzard Warnings from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic, with areas such as Chicago, Illinois; Detroit, Michigan; and Washington D.C. expecting significant snowfall totals.

Some notable weather stats so far include:

• New York City's JFK Airport is reporting over 20 inches of snow
• The Denver International Airport has seen over a foot of snow in the past 24 hours
• The city of Indianapolis, Indiana is under a state of emergency due to heavy ice accumulation

Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution when traveling and to stay informed about local weather conditions. If you're driving during this time, be sure to check your vehicle's maintenance before heading out.
