What Americans Think About Trump's First Year Back in Office

Donald Trump's first year back in office has been marked by controversy, division, and a renewed focus on his signature issues like immigration and trade. But how do ordinary Americans feel about it all? A recent poll conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research offers some surprising insights.

The AP-NORC survey found that while Trump's approval ratings remain low, there are pockets of support among certain demographics. For instance:

• 42% of Republicans say they approve of the job Trump is doing as president, down from 57% a year ago.
• Among rural Americans, 52% of those polled said they approve of Trump's performance.
• White evangelicals remain loyal to Trump, with 71% saying they approve of his presidency.

On the other hand, some groups are more skeptical. For example:

• Only 14% of Americans who identify as Democrats say they approve of Trump's job performance.
• Middle-class Americans are less supportive of Trump, with only 27% saying they approve of his presidency.

The survey also reveals some interesting trends when it comes to policy issues. For instance:

• 51% of Americans say they favor stricter background checks for gun purchases.
• 71% support increasing funding for mental health services in schools.
