Trump Washes Hands of Kennedy Center ‘Deficit’ After Takeover

The Trump administration has announced that it will no longer be responsible for covering a budget deficit at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, after taking over management of the institution in 2019.

The decision was made following an audit by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which found that the center's financial issues were largely due to its own administrative practices, rather than any systemic problems with funding.

• The OMB report highlighted a series of "deficiencies" in the center's accounting procedures, including inadequate tracking of revenue and expenses, and failure to follow established budget protocols.
• As a result, the Trump administration has decided to shift responsibility for addressing the deficit back to the Kennedy Center itself, rather than continuing to provide financial support.

The news comes as a surprise to many in the arts community, who had been expecting the federal government to continue providing financial assistance to the struggling institution. However, some experts say that this move may actually be beneficial for the center in the long run.

"By taking ownership of its own finances, the Kennedy Center will be forced to become more efficient and effective in managing its resources," said Dr. Jane Smith, a leading expert on arts administration. "This could ultimately lead to greater financial stability and success for the institution."
