Trump Tariffs Live Updates: US to Impose Tariffs on Chinese Chips in Mid-2027; Hassett Says $2K Rebate Checks 'Likely'
The Trump administration is taking another step towards imposing tariffs on imported Chinese goods, this time targeting computer chips. According to recent reports, the US plans to impose tariffs on Chinese-made semiconductor components starting mid-2027.
This move comes as part of the ongoing trade tensions between the US and China. The new tariffs are expected to affect several industries, including tech and manufacturing. While some experts argue that this will protect American businesses from unfair competition, others warn that it may lead to increased costs for consumers and a potential slowdown in economic growth.
Impact on Consumers
As the US-China trade war continues, it's essential to understand how these tariffs might affect you. While some companies may absorb the added costs, others will likely pass them on to customers. This could lead to higher prices for electronics, smartphones, and other products that rely on Chinese-made semiconductor components.
What About Those $2K Rebate Checks?
In related news, Kevin Hassett, a former Trump economic advisor, has suggested that rebate checks worth up to $2,000 are 'likely' in the coming months. This move would provide relief to American families struggling with rising costs and could be seen as an attempt by the administration to mitigate the impact of tariffs.
While this is just speculation for now, it's clear that the US government is exploring various options to support its citizens amidst the ongoing trade tensions.
