Trump Tariffs Live Updates: US to Impose Tariffs on Chinese Chips in Mid-2027; Hassett Says $2K Rebate Checks 'Likely'
The US is set to impose tariffs on certain Chinese semiconductor chips starting mid-2027, the latest move in an ongoing trade dispute between Washington and Beijing. The tariffs will affect a range of products used in everything from smartphones to electric vehicles.
According to reports, the US government has determined that China's chip industry receives significant support from its government, giving it an unfair competitive advantage. To level the playing field, the Trump administration plans to impose tariffs ranging from 10% to 25% on certain Chinese-made chips.
This move comes as part of a broader effort by the US to crack down on what it sees as unfair trade practices by China. The tariff increase is likely to have far-reaching consequences for companies that rely on these components, and may also impact consumers who purchase products containing them.
