Trump Tariffs Live Updates: US-Indonesia Deal at Risk of Collapse; Trump Floats 'Some' Additional Carveouts

The trade tensions between the United States and Indonesia are escalating, with reports suggesting that a crucial deal on tariffs is on the brink of collapse. The news comes as President Trump announced "some" additional carveouts for Indonesian goods in an effort to ease the trade dispute.

According to sources close to the negotiations, the US-Indonesia deal was intended to provide relief from tariffs imposed by both countries in 2020. However, progress has stalled in recent weeks, with Indonesia seeking further concessions on key sectors such as textiles and automotive parts.

Trump's tweet on Monday caused a stir when he hinted at offering "some" additional exemptions for Indonesian goods, sparking speculation about the potential carveouts. While details of the proposed exemptions remain scarce, industry insiders are bracing themselves for further disruptions to global supply chains.

What Does it Mean for You?

The uncertainty surrounding US-Indonesia trade relations is already having an impact on businesses and consumers alike. If the deal falls through, expect higher prices for Indonesian imports, from electronics and textiles to food and beverages.

Chef's note: If you're planning a trip to Indonesia or want to taste the flavors of Southeast Asia without breaking the bank, now might be a good time to stock up on spices and condiments before they become more expensive.
