Trump Tariffs Live Updates: US-Indonesia Deal at Risk of Collapse; Trump Floats 'Some' Additional Carveouts

The trade tensions between the United States and Indonesia are escalating, with reports suggesting that a long-awaited deal to slash tariffs on Indonesian goods is teetering on the brink of collapse. The development has sent shockwaves through global markets, as investors worry about the impact on supply chains and economies.

According to sources close to the negotiations, the US and Indonesia were nearing an agreement that would have reduced tariffs on a range of Indonesian exports, including textiles, electronics, and food products. However, the talks appear to have hit a snag, with both sides struggling to reach a compromise on key issues such as intellectual property protections and labor standards.

Adding fuel to the fire is President Trump's latest tweetstorm, in which he floated the idea of granting "some" additional carveouts from tariffs for certain Indonesian goods. While some analysts see this as a conciliatory gesture, others warn that it could be a Trojan horse aimed at undermining the negotiations.

The uncertainty surrounding the trade talks has already taken its toll on markets, with the Indonesian rupiah slipping against the dollar and Asian stocks trading lower. As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the US-Indonesia trade deal is far from over – and investors would do well to stay tuned for further updates.
