Top 10: The Fastest Aircraft Ever Made

When it comes to speed, humans have always pushed the boundaries of what's possible. From the Wright brothers' historic first flight to the latest cutting-edge designs, aircraft have been getting faster and more efficient by the year. But which ones take the top spot?

From military jets to experimental planes, we've compiled a list of the fastest aircraft ever made. Get ready for some serious speed thrills!

The Top 10 Fastest Aircraft Ever Made:

• X-51 Waverider (Mach 5+): This experimental scramjet reached incredible speeds in 2010, but unfortunately, its test flights were cut short due to budget constraints.
• F-22 Raptor (Mach 2.25+): The F-22 is the world's fastest operational fighter jet, capable of reaching speeds over twice the speed of sound.
• Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird (Mach 3.5+): This legendary spy plane was built for speed and stealth, with a top secret mission to gather intel on enemy territories.
• X-15 (Mach 6.72+): Another experimental jet, the X-15 was used in the '60s and '70s to test rocket-powered flight capabilities.
• P-51 Mustang (Mach 0.45+): While not as fast as some of its counterparts, the P-51 has a special place in history for being one of the fastest production aircraft of WWII.
• F-35 Lightning II (Mach 1.6+): A modern fighter jet with advanced stealth capabilities and impressive speed.
• North American X-15A (Mach 5.27+): Another variant of the X-15, this one was designed for high-speed flight tests in the '60s.
• P-38 Lightning (Mach 0.67+): This twin-engine fighter plane saw action during WWII and is still remembered for its impressive speed and agility.
• YF-22 (Mach 2.25+): A prototype of the F-22, this experimental jet tested the boundaries of flight speeds before its operational counterpart was developed.
• Apollo 11 Command Module (Mach 24+): While not an aircraft in the classical sense, the command module reached incredible speeds during re-entry into Earth's atmosphere.

Each of these remarkable aircraft pushed the limits of what's possible and paved the way for future innovations. Whether you're a history buff or just love speed, there's something to appreciate about these incredible machines!
