This CEO Laid Off Nearly 80% of His Staff Because They Refused to Adopt AI Fast Enough. 2 Years Later, He Says He’d Do It Again

Meet Alex Gruzen, the CEO of a tech company that made headlines in 2020 for laying off nearly 80% of its staff due to their reluctance to adopt artificial intelligence. Two years later, we're wondering: would he do it again?

Gruzen's decision was met with widespread criticism at the time, but he stands by his choice. "I didn't have a choice," he said in an interview. "Our company was stuck in the past, and I couldn't let that hold us back." He went on to explain that many of the employees who were laid off were resistant to change, preferring traditional methods over AI-driven innovation.

Fast forward two years, and Gruzen's company has not only survived but thrived. They've made significant strides in integrating AI into their operations, resulting in increased efficiency and productivity. So, would he do it again? "Absolutely," he said without hesitation. "I'd rather have a smaller team that's committed to the future than a large one that's stuck in the past."

Gruzen's experience serves as a stark reminder of the importance of embracing change and innovation in today's fast-paced business landscape. As companies continue to navigate the challenges of AI adoption, Gruzen's story is sure to spark important conversations about the role technology plays in shaping our industries.
