Storm Could Bring Up to 11 Inches of Snow to NY, NJ: What You Need to Know

A winter storm is barreling its way towards New York and New Jersey, bringing with it a blanket of snow that could reach up to 11 inches in some areas. If you're planning on heading out the door today or tomorrow, be sure to bundle up and check for any travel advisories before you leave.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for both states, effective from midnight tonight until 6 PM EST tomorrow. During this time, snow will fall at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour, with the heaviest amounts falling during the late morning and early afternoon hours.

Here are some key details to keep in mind:

• Snowfall amounts: 4-8 inches expected in NYC and surrounding areas, with up to 11 inches possible in the northern suburbs. In New Jersey, snowfall amounts will be lower, ranging from 2-6 inches.
• Travel advisories: A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for both states, which means travel is not recommended during this time. Roads will likely become slippery and hazardous, especially during the morning commute.
• Power outages: With heavy snowfall and strong winds expected, there's a risk of power outages across the region. Be sure to charge your devices and have a backup plan in case the lights go out.
