Speaker Johnson was ready to move on from ACA subsidies. But his members had other plans
Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio, has been a vocal critic of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. And just last week, it seemed like he might be getting his wish: the Trump administration announced that it would stop paying subsidies to insurance companies on the individual market. But in a surprising turn of events, Johnson's own members seem to be having second thoughts.
According to a recent report, several of Johnson's constituents who rely on the ACA for health coverage have been reaching out to express their concerns about the potential impact of the subsidy cut-off. It seems that while Johnson may have thought he was moving on from the ACA, his members had other plans – and they're making their voices heard.
One thing is clear: healthcare reform remains a contentious issue in Washington. Whether or not Johnson's members will ultimately get what they want is yet to be seen. But one thing that's certain is that the debate over the ACA is far from over.
