Soon you'll only be able to rent Tesla's FSD: What does it mean for electric car owners?

Could owning a Tesla with Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities become a thing of the past? A recent update from Elon Musk suggests that FSD might only be available as an annual subscription in the future. This change could have significant implications for electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts and those considering investing in a new Tesla.

Currently, drivers can activate FSD on their vehicles through a one-time payment or by purchasing it as part of their initial purchase price. However, according to Musk's recent statement, the FSD package might be limited to an annual subscription service only. This shift could potentially disrupt the way owners use and value their Tesla's advanced safety features.

For those who have already invested in a Tesla with FSD capabilities, this change may not be as significant. But for new buyers or those considering upgrading to a higher-end model, this development might impact their purchasing decisions. It's also worth noting that other automakers are exploring similar subscription-based models for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

As the EV landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Tesla and its competitors adapt to changing consumer demands and technological advancements.
