Private guard called 911 in ICE detainee homicide, saying man 'kept going' after suicide attempt

A private security guard at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Washington state called 911 after a detainee attempted to take his own life, but the guard's actions have sparked controversy.

The incident occurred on February 15th at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. According to documents obtained by our news organization, the private guard reported that the detainee "kept going" despite being told he was having a medical emergency.

It wasn't until the guard called 911 nearly an hour after the initial incident that paramedics arrived on the scene and found the man unresponsive. The detainee was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The documents suggest that the private guard's delay in calling for help may have contributed to the detainee's death. The incident has raised questions about the role of private security guards in immigrant detention centers and whether they are adequately trained to handle medical emergencies.

• ICE officials say the facility follows all applicable laws and regulations regarding medical care and emergency response.
• The Tacoma Police Department is investigating the incident, but no charges have been filed yet.

As this story continues to unfold, it's a sobering reminder of the complexities and challenges facing our immigration system. We'll continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
