Owner of Michael Jordan’s $9.5 Million Chicago Mansion Sparks Neighbors’ Fury With Plans To Turn Home Into ‘Immersive’ Museum

The neighborhood is not pleased. The owner of the former Chicago mansion owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan has submitted plans to turn the estate into an "immersive" museum, and locals are already expressing their discontent.

The 29,000-square-foot mansion, which was purchased for a reported $9.5 million in 2020, is situated on over six acres of land in the affluent neighborhood of Highland Park. Jordan himself once called the estate home from 1994 to 2003, but it's been off the market since his departure.

The museum concept has left many neighbors fuming, citing concerns about increased traffic and noise pollution. "It's just not what we want in our neighborhood," said one local resident in an interview. "We have families with young children who can't even walk through their own yards without being disturbed by the construction."

The plans propose a range of exhibits showcasing Jordan's basketball memorabilia, as well as interactive experiences and educational programs for visitors. While some see it as a unique opportunity to showcase Chicago's rich sports history, others fear the development will disrupt the quiet, family-friendly atmosphere of the neighborhood.

With construction set to begin in the coming months, tensions are likely to rise between residents and developers. As one neighbor quipped, "We're all just waiting to see if they'll finally get a decent parking lot in place – it's been a nightmare getting around here during rush hour."

What do you think? Would an immersive museum be a great addition to the neighborhood, or a recipe for disaster?
