New York County Goes Big To Dig Out From 5 Feet Of Snow

Winter has officially arrived in New York County, with residents waking up to a whopping 5 feet of snow on their doorsteps yesterday morning. The storm, which dumped over 24 inches of powder on the area in just 12 hours, has left many struggling to dig out from under the drifts.

The county's emergency services were quick to respond, deploying plows and salt trucks to clear roads and make way for stranded residents. But with such a massive amount of snow, progress has been slow going – and it's expected to take several days to fully restore order.

• Roads are treacherous, with many major highways still closed due to drifting and icing
• Over 1,000 power outages have been reported, leaving thousands in the dark
• Schools and public buildings remain shut as a precaution
