NASA makes final preparations for its first crewed moon mission in over 50 years
Get ready for a historic moment! NASA's Artemis program is gearing up to send astronauts back to the lunar surface for the first time since the Apollo era ended in 1972. After years of development and testing, the agency has reached the final preparations stage for its uncrewed mission, Artemis I, which will pave the way for the first crewed mission, Artemis III.
The Artemis program aims to establish a sustainable presence on the lunar surface by 2028, with plans to send the first woman and the next man to walk on the moon. The missions will also lay the groundwork for further human exploration of the solar system, including Mars.
- NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket is undergoing final checks in preparation for Artemis I
- The Orion spacecraft is scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center on November 14th, carrying an uncrewed capsule around the moon and back to Earth
- The mission will test critical systems, including navigation, communication, and propulsion
