Mortgage and Refinance Interest Rates Today, January 9, 2026: Trump Floats Plan to Push Rates Down

It's a new year, but mortgage and refinance interest rates remain a hot topic. According to recent reports, former President Donald Trump has floated the idea of implementing policies that would help drive down these rates. But what does this mean for homeowners and potential buyers?

• Rates have been relatively stable over the past few months, with some fluctuations based on economic indicators.
• Trump's proposal aims to address rising borrowing costs, which have become a significant burden for many Americans.

The idea of manipulating interest rates has sparked debate among economists and industry experts. Some argue that government intervention can help alleviate financial stress, while others caution against interfering with market forces.

For those considering a mortgage or refinance, it's essential to stay informed about current rates and how they might be affected by policy changes. As always, we recommend consulting with a qualified financial advisor to determine the best course of action for your individual situation.
