Millions Pledged to Syrian Australian Man Who Stopped Gunman and Became a National Hero

Australians are rallying around a Syrian refugee who has been hailed as a hero after stopping a gunman at a mosque in New South Wales last week. Omar Al-Kadri, 41, was shot while trying to disarm the attacker but managed to subdue him until police arrived.

Al-Kadri's bravery has sparked an outpouring of support from around the country, with millions pledged to help him and his family after he was forced into hiding due to death threats. The government has also offered him protection and a permanent visa.

"He showed incredible courage in the face of danger," said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. "His actions saved lives and will never be forgotten."

Al-Kadri's family, who fled war-torn Syria in 2013, are overwhelmed by the support they've received. "We're just grateful that Omar is safe and we can rebuild our lives here," his wife said.

The community has come together to raise funds for Al-Kadri and his family through a GoFundMe campaign, with millions pledged so far. The government has also promised to help them settle in Australia.

As Australians continue to rally around the hero of their day, it's clear that Omar Al-Kadri will never be forgotten.
