Magnesium L-Threonate Vs. Magnesium Glycinate: Which Is Better for You? A Dietitian Explains

When it comes to choosing a magnesium supplement, you've probably come across two popular options: magnesium L-threonate and magnesium glycinate. But which one is right for you?

We spoke with registered dietitian, Rachel Kable, to get the scoop on these two types of magnesium supplements. "Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a crucial role in many bodily functions," she explains. "However, as we age, our bodies may not be able to absorb magnesium as efficiently, which can lead to deficiencies."

Magnesium L-threonate and magnesium glycinate are two forms of magnesium that have gained popularity in recent years. But what sets them apart?

• Magnessium L-Threonate: This form of magnesium is designed to cross the blood-brain barrier, making it easier for the body to absorb. "Magnesium L-threonate is particularly useful for individuals with brain fog or memory issues," Rachel notes.
• Magnesium Glycinate: This form of magnesium is known for its calming effects and ability to promote relaxation. "Magnesium glycinate is excellent for individuals who experience anxiety or stress," Rachel says.

So, which one should you choose? According to Rachel, it ultimately comes down to your individual needs. "If you're looking for a supplement that can help with brain function and memory, magnesium L-threonate may be the better choice. However, if you're seeking relief from anxiety or stress, magnesium glycinate is worth considering."

Remember, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional before adding any new supplements to your diet.
