Macy’s to Close Stores Across 12 States in Early 2026: Which Locations Are Shutting Down?

Get ready for some retail shake-ups, folks! Macy's has announced plans to close stores across 12 states in early 2026. While this might not come as a surprise to those who have been keeping up with the retail landscape, we're breaking down which locations are affected and what it means for customers.

Macy's operates over 700 stores across the US, but it seems some of these will be closing their doors for good. According to sources, the closures will impact a range of states, including California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas.

So which specific stores are getting the axe? We've got the lowdown: in California, 4 locations will be closing (in Anaheim, Brea, Ontario, and San Jose), while in Florida, 3 stores will shut down (in Boca Raton, Miami, and Orlando). Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan will each lose one location.

As for what this means for customers, it's likely that Macy's will try to redirect foot traffic to nearby locations or online sales. That being said, those who regularly shop at these closing stores might need to find alternative retailers or adjust their shopping habits.
