Kennedy Center Criticizes Musician Who Canceled Performance

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is speaking out against a musician who canceled a scheduled performance after their name was added to one of the center's buildings.

Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason was set to perform at the center's Eisenhower Theater, but pulled out of the concert after learning that his name would be featured on a commemorative plaque in honor of President Donald Trump.

The Kennedy Center released a statement expressing disappointment and frustration with Kanneh-Mason's decision. "We are disappointed that Mr. Kanneh-Mason has chosen to cancel his performance at the Kennedy Center," the statement read. "The Kennedy Center is a place where artists from all backgrounds and perspectives come together to share their talents, and we expect our performers to respect the center's values of inclusivity and respect for diversity."

Kanneh-Mason had been scheduled to perform with the National Symphony Orchestra as part of the center's annual 90th Anniversary Season celebration.
