Johns Hopkins freshman class shows impact of Supreme Court admissions ruling

For years, college admissions experts have been warning about a changing landscape for students seeking to enroll in top-tier universities like Johns Hopkins. The Supreme Court's 2020 ruling on affirmative action has led to significant changes in the way schools approach admissions. And this year's freshman class at Johns Hopkins is providing some fascinating insights into what that looks like.

According to data released by the university, the incoming class of 2026 shows a marked shift towards students from lower-income backgrounds and historically underrepresented communities. The number of students receiving full-ride scholarships has increased significantly, as has the representation of first-generation college students.

• Freshmen from low-income families now make up nearly 20% of the class, up from just 10% last year
• The university has seen a 30% increase in applications from students of color
• First-generation college students now comprise over 25% of the incoming class

This shift is likely due in part to Johns Hopkins' efforts to revamp its admissions process following the Supreme Court's ruling. The university has implemented new initiatives aimed at increasing diversity and making college more accessible to underrepresented communities.

These changes have implications not just for students, but also for policymakers and educators nationwide. As the landscape of college admissions continues to evolve, one thing is clear: the face of American higher education is changing rapidly.
