Jobless After Two Years: The Struggle is Real for Some Americans

Meet John, a software engineer who was laid off by Oracle two years ago. He's not alone - millions of Americans are struggling to find employment after being let go from their jobs. Despite having a degree and experience in the tech industry, John has been unable to secure a new job, forcing him to get creative with his finances.

With savings dwindling, John turned to selling antiques online to make ends meet. It's not his dream career, but it pays the bills - barely. "I've tried everything," he says. "Networking events, resume building services, even taking on freelance work. Nothing seems to stick."

The numbers are staggering: according to a recent study, nearly 4 million Americans have been out of work for over six months. For some, like John, it's not just about finding a new job - it's about surviving.

• Long-term unemployment can have serious effects on mental and physical health
• Many job seekers struggle to keep up with the latest skills and technologies required by employers
• The gig economy may be a temporary solution for some, but it's not a substitute for steady employment

As John navigates this challenging time in his life, he's come to realize that finding a new job is just one part of the equation. "It's about resilience," he says. "You have to be willing to try new things and adapt to changing circumstances."
