Home Depot copies Walmart with decision consumers won't like

In a move that has left many homeowners scratching their heads, Home Depot has announced plans to start charging for customers to use their shopping carts.

The retail giant says it's introducing the new policy in an effort to reduce costs and improve efficiency, but it seems many shoppers aren't buying it. The decision mirrors a similar move by Walmart earlier this year, which also sparked widespread criticism from customers.

• Customers will be required to pay a small fee for each cart used - a move that's being met with resistance from many consumers who feel it's an added expense they can't afford
• The fees are expected to range between $1 and $3 per cart, depending on the store location
• Home Depot claims the new policy will help reduce waste and encourage customers to bring their own reusable bags

While some may see this as a small price to pay for convenience, others are up in arms about the decision. After all, who wants to pay extra just to have a place to put their groceries?

We've seen it before with stores like Costco and Trader Joe's - charging customers for services that used to be free has become increasingly common in recent years.

Still, as one Home Depot customer pointed out, "it's not the price of the cart that's the issue - it's the principle behind it. I don't want to pay extra just to use something that's already been paid for by me through my purchases."
