A former member of Marquette's track and field team has been charged with having sexual contact with a minor, according to reports from local authorities.
The alleged incident is said to have occurred in the spring semester of this year. The suspect, a male athlete who competed for Marquette between 2018 and 2022, is accused of engaging in a romantic relationship with a 13-year-old girl, sparking outrage and concern within the university community.
- The alleged victim was reportedly a student at a local high school, which has launched its own investigation into the matter.
- Marquette University officials have confirmed that the suspect is no longer affiliated with the institution's athletic department.
The incident has raised questions about how such allegations can be prevented and addressed within university settings. As institutions of higher learning, colleges and universities have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of their students, both on and off campus.
