Forecasters say ‘substantial’ snow is possible this weekend, though amounts are still unclear

Winter weather fans, rejoice! Or maybe not – it all depends on your perspective. Either way, the good news is that forecasters are warning of a potentially snowy weekend ahead for many parts of the country.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm watches and warnings for several states, with some areas expecting "substantial" snowfall by Saturday night or Sunday morning. However, it's still too early to say exactly how much snow will fall in each region – or even which regions will be affected most.

While we wait for more concrete predictions, here are a few things you can do to prepare: check your emergency kit (and make sure it's stocked with essentials like flashlights, batteries, and non-perishable snacks), plan ahead for any weekend plans that might be disrupted by the weather, and – if you're really feeling adventurous – stock up on some cozy winter gear.
