First-time Tesla owner shares what shocked him the most after owning the car for a year: 'The more I drive this car…'

A recent story has us thinking about what it's like to own one of the latest electric vehicles on the market - and specifically, a Tesla. We've all heard the hype, but what does it take to go from never owning an EV before to being a seasoned owner after just 12 months?

We spoke with Joe, a first-time Tesla owner who's been driving his Model S for nearly a year now. He shared with us some of the things that surprised him the most about owning a Tesla - and trust us, it's worth reading.

According to Joe, one of the biggest surprises was how quickly he got used to Supercharging. "I thought it would be this novelty thing where I'd have to go find these super-long charging stations all over town," he explained. But in reality, it only took him a few weeks to get comfortable with the fact that his car could charge up to 80% in just 45 minutes.

Another surprise was how often Joe found himself using Autopilot features like Autosteer and Smart Summon. "I thought I'd be using these features all the time, but honestly, they're only really useful on long trips or when you need a break," he said. Still, it's nice to know that your car is looking out for you - especially in heavy traffic.

Of course, no Tesla owner would ever say that their car doesn't get any better with time. "The more I drive this car, the more features I discover," Joe admitted, laughing. "It's like a new toy every week!" Still, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Joe did mention one thing that he wasn't prepared for: the constant updates to his car's software. "It can be frustrating when your car decides it needs an update - right in the middle of a road trip," he said with a chuckle.

Despite that, Joe would still recommend owning a Tesla to anyone who's considering making the switch. "It may take some getting used to," he said, "but trust me, it's worth it."
