Exclusive: The Trump Administration Killed a Draft Proposal to Halve Alcohol Limits, Sources Say

The Trump administration has reportedly scrapped a draft proposal to lower the blood alcohol content (BAC) limit for drivers from 0.08% to 0.05%, according to sources close to the matter.

The proposed change was intended to reduce the number of drunk driving fatalities on American roads, which claim thousands of lives every year. However, it appears that bureaucratic pushback and concerns about potential economic impacts may have contributed to the proposal's demise.

While some countries, including Sweden and Norway, have already implemented lower BAC limits, the US has been slower to follow suit. Advocates for stricter drunk driving laws argue that the move could save lives and prevent countless injuries, while critics point to concerns about enforcement and potential economic costs.

What This Means for Drivers and Advocates

• The scrapped proposal is a setback for those pushing for more stringent drunk driving laws in the US.
• Despite this development, advocates for stricter limits are unlikely to give up. Expect ongoing efforts to push for lower BAC limits and improved enforcement.
• For now, drivers should continue to be aware of their BAC levels and plan ahead when socializing or engaging in activities that may involve alcohol consumption.
