Exclusive: The Trump Administration Killed a Draft Proposal to Halve Alcohol Limits, Sources Say

The White House quietly shelved plans to lower the legal blood alcohol limit for drivers, according to sources familiar with the matter.

A draft proposal had been circulating within the administration, suggesting that the limit be reduced from 0.08% to 0.05%. However, it's unclear why this plan was ultimately scrapped.

• The proposed change would have aligned the U.S. with several other countries, including Australia and many European nations.
• Supporters argue that a lower limit would save lives on American roads, where drunk driving remains a significant public health concern.

While the draft proposal is no longer in circulation, its contents have sparked debate among transportation safety experts. Some argue that reducing the limit would lead to more frequent arrests and potentially even more accidents.

As the conversation around road safety continues, it's worth considering the role technology can play in preventing impaired driving. For example, some cars now come equipped with advanced features like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning systems.
