COVID or flu? Here's how to tell the difference

As we head into cold and flu season, it can be tough to know whether you're coming down with COVID-19 or just a bad case of the flu. Both illnesses share similar symptoms, but there are some key differences that can help you determine what's going on.

Common symptoms: COVID-19 vs. flu

The flu and COVID-19 both cause fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, and fatigue. But there are some important distinctions to look out for:

  • Fever: Both illnesses can cause high temperatures, but COVID-19 often brings a higher fever (usually over 102°F).
  • Cough: The flu typically causes a dry cough, while COVID-19 tends to bring up mucus.
  • Taste and smell: COVID-19 often affects the sense of taste and smell, leaving you feeling like something's off but not quite sure what it is. (And don't even get us started on those lingering scents – we've got a few air purifiers that might help with that!)
  • Shortness of breath: If you're having trouble catching your breath or feel winded just walking around, this could be a sign of pneumonia, which can accompany either illness.

Of course, the only way to know for sure is to get tested. But if you do end up with COVID-19, don't worry – we've got some helpful products to help make your isolation a little more bearable (see our cat feeder, for example, perfect for those long Zoom calls). Or if you're not feeling up to cooking, consider one of our meal delivery services – they'll bring the food right to your doorstep!

Stay healthy out there! And as always, take care of yourself and reach out to a healthcare professional if you have any concerns.
