Costco Shoplifting Couple Stash Multiple Bottles of Liquor, Sacramento Deputies Say Amid Arrest

It's not exactly the most elegant way to stock your liquor cabinet – but for one California couple, shoplifting seems to have been their go-to method. According to Sacramento law enforcement officials, a married duo was arrested after allegedly stashing multiple bottles of liquor from a local Costco.

The suspects, whose names haven't been released, were reportedly caught by security cameras as they loaded the stolen booze into their vehicle. Deputies say the haul included several high-end bottles worth hundreds of dollars.

Shoplifting at big-box stores like Costco can be a costly mistake – not just for the perpetrators, but also for consumers who end up paying higher prices to make up for the losses. In recent years, retailers have been cracking down on theft by implementing new security measures and increasing penalties for offenders.

• Some stores are now using AI-powered cameras to detect and deter shoplifters.
• Others are employing data analytics to track inventory and identify potential losses.

Costco, in particular, has faced challenges related to shoplifting in the past. The retailer has implemented various security measures, including increased staffing during peak shopping hours and partnerships with local law enforcement agencies to combat theft.
