Climbing Fox Outruns Delaware’s Old Symbols—But Why This Animal, and Not a Bird?

Delaware has announced its new official state symbol: the climbing fox! While many were expecting a bird to take the top spot (after all, they're so iconic in American culture), the clever little fox seems to have won over hearts with its unique abilities. So, why did Delaware choose this particular animal?

One reason is that the climbing fox has adapted impressively to its environment, often scaling steep rock faces and outcroppings with ease. This adaptability is a quality we can all admire and aspire to – especially in these uncertain times.

Symbols of Adaptation: What Makes Climbing Foxes Stand Out

• Steep terrain navigation: With their flexible bodies and sure-footed paws, climbing foxes can traverse even the most inhospitable landscapes.
• Keen senses: These animals possess a keen sense of smell and eyesight, helping them navigate the rugged wilderness with ease.
• Intelligence: Climbing foxes have been observed using creative solutions to overcome obstacles – proof that intelligence and resourcefulness are just as valuable as physical prowess.

While this might raise questions about why a bird wasn't chosen, it's clear Delaware is looking for an animal that embodies the qualities we value most. And with its unique blend of agility, wit, and determination, the climbing fox makes a great fit for the role.
