CEO of $90 Billion Waste Management Shares Humble Beginnings

Steve Russell, CEO of Waste Management Inc., is no stranger to the world of waste management. With a company valued at over $90 billion, one would think he's always been surrounded by luxury and high-end amenities. But it seems that wasn't always the case.

In an interview, Russell shared some surprising insights into his humble beginnings in the industry. He revealed that early on in his career, he was a truck driver for the company, hauling trash around the clock. Yes, you read that right – this $90 billion CEO used to haul trash!

• Russell's hands-on experience gave him a unique perspective on the challenges faced by workers in the industry.
• He also shared that he would often attend 1 a.m. safety briefings, which taught him the importance of prioritizing employee safety and well-being.

Russell's willingness to get his hands dirty and connect with employees on a personal level has clearly earned him respect within the company. It's clear that for him, it's not just about dollars and cents – it's about people and the impact they have on the community.
