CBS removes Tony Dokoupil blasting 'big problems' amid flub on first live “Evening News” show

It looks like CBS is taking steps to address some of the "big problems" that anchor Tony Dokoupil highlighted during his debut on the network's flagship evening news program.

Dokoupil, who joined CBS News in 2021 after stints at NBC and ABC, was widely praised for his engaging style and nuanced reporting. However, his first live broadcast of “Evening News” didn't quite go as smoothly as he would have liked.

• During the segment, Dokoupil stumbled over some of the details, prompting critics to accuse him of being unprepared or even careless.
• The incident sparked a heated debate on social media, with some calling for greater scrutiny of news anchors and their preparation.

While Dokoupil's mistakes didn't seem to affect his enthusiasm or dedication to the role, they did raise questions about the quality control measures in place at CBS News. In response, the network has announced that it will be taking steps to address some of the "big problems" Dokoupil identified.

These changes are expected to focus on improving the production values and editorial processes behind the show. Whether they'll also include more rigorous training or preparation for anchors remains to be seen.
