Blizzard or Bust? Breaking Down the Scenarios for a Major NYC Area Snowstorm This Weekend

As we head into the final stretch of winter, the Big Apple is bracing itself for what could be its biggest snowfall yet. A powerful nor'easter is brewing off the East Coast, and forecasters are warning of potentially crippling snow totals.

The Models Say...

• National Weather Service (NWS): The NWS is predicting a significant snow event, with up to 12 inches possible in some areas. They're urging New Yorkers to prepare for power outages and travel disruptions.
• The European Model: This model is painting a more dramatic picture, forecasting up to 18 inches of snow in the NYC area. It's also predicting strong winds that could bring down trees and power lines.

While there are still many variables at play, one thing is certain: this storm has the potential to be a major player in the world of winter weather.

What to Expect This Weekend

• Snow Totals: While it's difficult to pinpoint exact totals, forecasters are warning that some areas could see significant snow accumulation – potentially even into the double digits.
• Travel Disruptions: With heavy snow and strong winds expected, travel will likely be hazardous. Check with your airline or transportation provider for updates before heading out.
• Power Outages: The NWS is warning of potential power outages due to the weight of snow on trees and power lines.
