BBQ chain closes half its restaurants, files Chapter 11

The summer just got a lot grayer for BBQ fans across the country. A popular BBQ chain has announced that it's closing down nearly half of its restaurants and filing for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11.

The company, which operates over 1,000 locations in 40 states, cited "increasing competition" and "changing consumer preferences" as reasons for the closures. While this might not be great news for BBQ enthusiasts, it's a clear sign that the casual dining landscape is shifting rapidly.

Chapter 11 protection allows companies to restructure their debts and operations in an effort to recover financially. But what does this mean for customers? Some locations will likely remain open, but many fans of the chain may find themselves saying goodbye to their favorite BBQ spot.

Interestingly, this news comes on the heels of a trend towards more limited-service restaurants and online ordering, which some analysts see as a sign that consumers are increasingly prioritizing convenience over traditional dining experiences.

• The chain's woes serve as a reminder that even beloved brands can struggle to adapt to changing consumer habits.
• For those looking for alternatives, there are still plenty of great BBQ spots out there – and some awesome products to help you bring the BBQ experience home!
