As millions of Gen Zers face unemployment, CEOs say opportunity is still there

With over a million young Americans out of work due to layoffs and company closures, it's no secret that finding employment can be tough right now. But the CEOs of some major brands have a message for this generation: don't lose hope.

We spoke with leaders from Amazon, Walmart, and McDonald's about what they think is missing from the current job market. Their answer? A certain mindset.

• "It's not just about having the right skills," said an Amazon executive. "We need people who are adaptable, resilient, and willing to learn."
• Walmart's CEO emphasized the importance of a growth mindset: "Our customers' needs are constantly changing. We need employees who can adapt to those changes and innovate with us."
• McDonald's leader highlighted the value of creativity: "We're not just looking for people who can take orders and serve food. We want employees who can think outside the box and come up with new ideas to drive our business forward."

So, what does this mean for Gen Zers struggling to find work? For starters, it means that having a college degree or specific technical skills may not be enough anymore. It's time to focus on developing those soft skills – like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork – that will set you apart in the job market.
