Apple just announced a new AirTag -- but it's still lacking features found on my favorite Bluetooth tracker
I've been following the development of Apple's AirTag, and I have to say, I'm underwhelmed by the latest announcement. As someone who's been using a high-end Bluetooth tracker for months now, I was expecting more from Apple's offering. Here are some of the features that have me feeling like the new AirTag is still playing catch-up:- No battery replacement**: Unlike my trusty Bluetooth tracker, which has removable batteries and a decent lifespan on a single charge, the AirTag relies on a replaceable battery pack - but you'll need to visit an Apple Store or authorized reseller to get it replaced.
- Limited range**: My current tracker offers up to 9 miles of range in open spaces, while the new AirTag is capped at 8 miles. That might not seem like a big deal, but when you're trying to locate your belongings in a crowded area, every little bit counts.
- No support for custom accessories**: I've grown accustomed to using third-party straps and mounts with my Bluetooth tracker, which can be easily swapped out or customized to fit different use cases. Unfortunately, the AirTag doesn't seem to offer this flexibility - yet.
