American Airlines pilot shared screenshot of salary — and people’s jaws are on the floor

Imagine making over $700,000 a year as an American Airlines pilot. That's what one pilot recently revealed after sharing a screenshot of their annual salary on social media – and it's left many in awe.

The pilot, who wishes to remain anonymous, posted a photo showing their W-2 form from the airline. According to the document, they earned a whopping $714,119 last year. To put that into perspective, the median household income in the United States is around $67,000.

Needless to say, many people are shocked by the pilot's impressive salary. "I've seen some big numbers before, but this one takes the cake," wrote one commenter on social media. "That's some serious money!"

While we can't speak to the specifics of the pilot's compensation package or whether they're part of a union that negotiates salaries, it's clear that flying for a major airline like American Airlines comes with its perks.

The perks of being an airline pilot

• High salary: As you can see from our example above, airline pilots can earn upwards of $700,000 per year – not bad for a career that involves traveling the world!
• Bonuses and benefits: In addition to their base salary, pilots may also receive bonuses or other benefits like free or discounted travel, food allowances, and more.
