40-year-old Arts and Crafts Chain Files Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

The world of arts and crafts has lost a major player, as popular chain Michael's announced that it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The company, which was founded in 1973, has struggled to compete with the rise of online retailers like Amazon and specialty stores. Despite its efforts to adapt, Michael's has seen sales decline in recent years.

As part of its restructuring plan, Michael's will continue to operate its over 1,200 stores across North America. However, it is expected to close underperforming locations and reduce its workforce.

Impact on the Craft Community

The bankruptcy filing has sent shockwaves through the arts and crafts community, with many customers expressing concern about the future of their favorite store.

"I've been shopping at Michael's for years," said one customer. "It's a sad day to see them struggling like this."

However, industry insiders say that the bankruptcy filing may actually provide an opportunity for the company to restructure and come back stronger than ever.
