20,000-Pound Cocaine Seizure by Coast Guard Breaks 18-Year-Old Record

The U.S. Coast Guard has made a massive cocaine bust, seizing over 20,000 pounds of the illicit substance in a single operation. This haul breaks an 18-year-old record for the largest cocaine seizure by the Coast Guard.

According to officials, the cocaine was found on a cargo ship that was stopped off the coast of Puerto Rico earlier this month. The vessel was carrying a shipment of sugar from Colombia when it was intercepted by U.S. authorities.

What's Behind This Record-Breaking Seizure?

Experts say that the surge in cocaine trafficking is largely due to the rise of organized crime groups in Central and South America. These groups are using increasingly sophisticated methods to smuggle their product, making it harder for authorities to catch them.

The U.S. Coast Guard has been working closely with other law enforcement agencies to combat this trend. Their efforts have paid off with this massive seizure, which is a significant blow to the cocaine trade.
